Our Story
Haley (Faith’s college roommate) and Harrison (Austin’s college roommate) got married on February 25, 2022 in Oklahoma City. They were both bound and determined that two of their best friends, both single and part of the wedding party, needed to talk to each other.
Austin and Faith had never met each other, nor had they heard of each other prior to then. Austin had recently moved from Norman, OK to Gardner, KS after accepting an engineering job at Garmin. He made the trip back for Haley and Harrison’s wedding, but quickly realized there was a plot to set him up with this girl he had never heard of.
From Faith’s perspective, she saw this whole situation going either very well or extremely awkward. It seemed like everyone (except for Faith and Austin) was invested in setting up as many opportunities as possible for them to be forced to talk to each other. The prime example of this was assigning them to sit next to each other at the dinner table. One by one the rest of the table got up and left, leaving Austin and Faith alone.
Although resistant at first, it quickly became clear that the two did enjoy talking to each other and they stayed in touch after the wedding. Despite having doubts about the long distance that separated them, they knew they needed to see each other again!
The next milestone was when Austin first made the 634 mile round-trip drive from Kansas City to Oklahoma City just to visit Faith. That weekend, they went to downtown OKC to visit the Bricktown Riverwalk and spent a lot of time discovering their shared values and similar life goals. By this point, they both knew this was something special!
One of Faith’s cousins was getting married in Stillwater, which meant the entire Jandreau family was going to be traveling from all over the country to be in Oklahoma. Austin got to meet everyone all at once! It was intimidating but he got great reviews from the family!
…due to unforseen circumstances. Faith’s flight home on Christmas Eve was cancelled due to winter storms, so she spent Christmas with Austin’s family. While Faith was upset by missing Christmas at home, it became clear how God’s plan was unfolding. Even though it was unplanned and last minute, the Hanochs welcomed her with open arms and even made sure she had gifts to open!
The day after Christmas, Austin and Faith decided to drive from Tulsa to Windsor, CO so that she could be with her family for New Years. This was their first road trip together and the third state they got to check off their list. They set a goal to travel to all 50 states! It was a crazy week but in the best way possible!
To celebrate their one-year anniversary, Austin and Faith tried something new by going to a candle-making class at a local shop and exploring new parts of Kansas City together. In looking back at the previous year, they were grateful for how far they had come and so excited about what the next year would bring!
The summer of 2023 was a busy but fun time! Austin and Faith spent almost every weekend together. The highlights of the summer were another road trip to Colorado for the 4th of July, several weddings, visiting the Hallmark Museum, and attending the Kansas City Air Show. But most importantly, Austin’s and Faith’s parents finally got to meet each other!
It’s football time in Oklahoma! Although Faith was not Sooner-born, by the time her second season rolled around she was definitely Sooner-bred. In addition to attending OU football games, they also celebrated Austin’s birthday in October and Faith’s birthday in November. They spent Thanksgiving in Tulsa and made sure to leave time for a Christmas party with their friends!
After a stressful few weeks, Austin planned a date night to Cattlemen’s Steakhouse in OKC. Little did Faith know, Austin had something even better planned for when they got home! Austin’s parents drove from Tulsa to set up Faith’s back yard for pictures. With the Jandreaus on FaceTime, Austin took Faith outside and proposed! She was totally surprised and Austin was relieved to no longer have to keep it a secret!
